Resource of the Week: Healthy Lifestyles Goals Calendar for Junetrition
Talking Point of the Week:
Did you know that food impacts your brain? It can also impact trauma responses. When sexual assault counselors complete their training at SARCC, one of the topics we cover is the Neurobiology of sexual trauma. We learn all about the ways that the brain and the body work together, and in-turn can be dis-regulated, and in later-turn healed, by understanding these connections.
For example, did you know that eating something sugary, like a banana, before bed can increase the risk of a nightmare? Or that eating something protein rich, like an egg, can decrease the risk of a nightmare? Survivors of sexual violence will often experience hypervigilant responses – like jumpiness, irritability, and nightmares. Having nutrition tips like that could be quite helpful for someone who is learning to reconnect with their brains and bodies again.
This month at SARCC our staff will be embarking on our next Wellness Challenge – Junetrition! I am sharing the calendar with all of you in case you would like to join along with us! We will be learning about super foods, having healthy lunch bunch discussions, and tracking our challenges throughout the month of June, and beginning on Sunday May 28th! Feel free to follow along with this calendar to try out some new nutrition tools or build some healthy habits!
