Resource Of the Week: the history of Halloween: Halloween 2023: Origins, Meaning & Traditions | HISTORY

Another name for Halloween is “All Hallows Eve”, which is the night before All Hallows or All Saints’ Day. Many of us conjure up images of glowing pumpkins, costumes, and of course candy on this spook-tac-ular evening, but it is always important to remember that survivors can experience holidays and events differently than we might expect.

While we might enjoy a haunted house where things pop out and reach for us, a survivor might be triggered by this and end up feeling unsafe in a public space. This Halloween season, keep an eye out for anyone who might need a reassuring smile or an advocate – we can always help as bystanders by just checking in with someone and making sure that they are doing ok.
