SARCC Lebanon has announced the launch of Rise Above Trauma, a multi-layered approach to helping teens navigate their trauma and their healing by providing education and tangible skills that teens affected by trauma may need to move through their everyday life. This group combines group/peer support, one-on-one mentorship, and trauma education to address the most common areas of need for local teens.
Here at SARCC, our counselors, advocates, and therapists noticed a trend in some of the teens we were serving: They were not going home to environments that promoted healing.
What do we mean by this? Some of our teens were excelling in services but struggled to balance the things they learned in counseling or therapy at home due to many different issues. (i.e., added responsibility of work or sibling care, managing school and school-related activities, or a lack of adult support in the home.) Creators Tatianna Garcia (Counselor/Advocate) and Caitlin Lockard (Connected Together Coordinator) saw this as an opportunity to roll all these teens’ needs into a one-stop-shop for teen healing.
Rise Above Trauma will cover education topics such as “What is Trauma?” and “How do I cope?” while also introducing opportunities to learn practical every-day skills such as time management, budgeting, and nutrition that will help to empower participants to take on life (and their healing) confidently! One-on-one mentorship built into the group will help participating teens to individualize their experience in Rise Above Trauma and supply them with a safe adult to help them lay the foundation for a successful and authentic future.
Rise Above Trauma will take place on Monday evenings beginning on March 3rd, 2025 through April 21st, 2025 from 6:00PM to 7:30PM in the SARCC board room located at 615 Cumberland St, Lebanon, PA 17042. One-on-one mentorship sessions will be scheduled by the participant and their respective mentor once a week throughout the duration of the group. A meal will be provided at every group session. Teens aged 14-17 are encouraged to participate. For more information, or to register, please contact Tatianna Garcia via email at 717-270-6972 ext. 352, or via email at tgarcia@sarcclebanon.org. Self-registration and agency referrals are accepted. Registration will be closed on March 3rd, 2025. Space is limited.
