Schuylkill Strong: Creating Affirming Spaces for LGBTQ+ Communities

Join the Schuylkill Strong Series workshop to learn practical skills and background info to create affirming spaces for services and support LGBTQ+ community members. Lunch will be provided, and there is no cost for attending this training.

The need for LGBTQ+ affirming services in our communities is growing, but when it comes to supporting clients through everyday practices, policies, and procedures, many professionals aren’t sure where to begin! Join Kaity Nordhoff, Prevention & Social Transformation Coordinator for SARCC, for a skills-based workshop entitled “Serving LGBTQ+ People: Affirmative & Trauma-Informed Practices for Professionals.” Through a combination of large-group activities and discussions, we will learn and practice using basic terminology around sex, gender, and sexuality. Participants will identify barriers to care that LGBTQ+ individuals may encounter, as well as concrete strategies to increase access and appropriateness of services in any setting. By the end of this training, participants will have the tools and motivation to create welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ clients in a variety of helping fields.

Please register ahead of time to ensure a proper count for food and materials. This workshop is especially targeted for human service providers, school staff, and first responders. General community members are invited to attend.
